Jr NTR's Screen Presence Remains Untouchable
Devara succeeds whenever Jr NTR occupies the frame. His intensity carries emotional weight even during weaker narrative stretches β there is a quality of physical commitment in his performance that few contemporary Indian actors match, and Koratala Siva understood that and built around it. The film is visually ambitious and musically explosive. Anirudh Ravichander's background score injects urgency into scenes that might otherwise collapse under pacing issues.
Where the Film Struggles
The screenplay occasionally mistakes scale for depth. Certain emotional beats arrive underdeveloped despite strong performances around them β the antagonist's motivation particularly suffers from the film's prioritisation of spectacle over psychology. Still, Devara delivers exactly what theatrical audiences currently value: elevation, intensity, and spectacle that justifies the ticket price. It is a film that works better in the moment than it holds up under examination, which is a description that fits a significant portion of successful Indian commercial cinema right now.
